Thorin doesn't notice it, it could be the light in the sky reflecting off Bilbo's eyes, but right now his worry overrides everything. Bilbo smiles at him, if but a little, and nods. He doesn't tell him much, just that he's done it.

It explains nothing and then the hobbit goes off to talk to the other dwarves. Thorin stands confused and perplexed, but listens in. Smaug is leaving? He comes up behind Bilbo, hand reaching for his arm to turn him towards him.
"Leaving? He is going out to hunt? What is happening?" Explain, hobbit. Please. Still the dwarves look shocked, frightened even at the idea of Smaug coming out of the mountain and move to try and hide the ponies so they won't be seen, to tether them so they don't run off.
